I went to the bank today and the teller had $80 in halves; I bought them. The rolls were solid 1971 or 1972 or 1973 circulated halves.

Made me wonder did I get someone's coin collection from the 1970's or was it actually an OCD sorter? I wouldn't think a sorter/hoarder would organize them by date but I could be wrong.

I'd go with you got someones 1970's collection...I doubt any sorter would take the time to order his/her dump coins by year.

Maybe next time he will turn in his 1964-1969 collection :)

I am sure someone was hanging on to them and thought there were worth money. I have gone to buy a lot of peoples collections and there always seems to be a group of coins that that are a little "older" so they assume they are worth money so they keep them.

I've gotten quite a few CWR's lately here in mid-GA with labels on the wrapper stating '76 commemoratives or 9-1971, 8-1972, 3-1973 for example. The teller told me an old man brings them in, so I'm assuming it was part of a coin collection at one time. It also happens to be someone else's dump bank so I'm told. Guy buys a $500 box and returns them to the SAME BRANCH. I still pull a few silvers out of here though.

I did that for a bit because i would create a histogram of the dates by stacking the coins before rolling them back up, then thought i was helping out other collectors and stopped. Too bad they weren't 61, 62, etc.

Well I thought maybe it could be a sorter; maybe someone likes to keep track of their % and exactly what they find.

I find those from time to time in customer rolls. I think they come from collectors who hold on to a few rolls by date. Found 1k of them in a Florida bank and every one but the last roll was from the 70's and 80's. The last roll was from 1968, a full roll of silver. All be it a small find out of 1k, was worth the trouble.
