For the last 3 weeks, a local Wells Fargo has been selling me $500 of halves that they order in every week. They seemed glad to get rid of them.
Last week they said they could start ordering me my own box.
I got a call today and the head teller said that management said they can only sell me $100 at a time. Weird huh?
Luckily, I had a local chase order me $1k for next week.

This will happen to all of us sooner or later. The banks are tired of eating the expenses of feeding our hobby. There is nothing in it for them, and they want to make money. If they really do charge merchants by the roll, then think how much of a beneficiary we've been for the many months/years some have been searching. I am no friend of banks... so let's sort as much as we can still squeeze from them while we can... before they cut all of us off completely. They are trying to discourage you from ordering, that's clear. Too bad. |
Hoard now and hold on!

My advice is to continue to take what they will give you. Be very nice, and occasionally ask if you could get more. I have had banks cut me off, but I keep going back asking, and they usually start ordering for me again. I also had one bank charge me by the roll. I paid the fees for a few weeks, and I'd get these odd reciepts in the mail from the bank, and eventually they just quit charging me, as too much of a hassle for them. Also, branch management seems to change frequently, and with it, the policy. |

Yeah appears it must be based on branch management. I went to a Well's Fargo down the street from work and they were more than happy to order me a $500 box for next Thursday. |

Good news; she accidentally ordered too many halves this week and she sold me $700 worth instead of the $100
There were six 40% halves in the $500 box, three proofs 1982 S, 1971 S, 2002 S; two 2006 D; havent checked the other $200 |

I don't take it for granted that the banks will always sell us the coinage in the amounts that they have been. I advise that we get what we can as soon as we can. |

I keep thinking the same thing. It makes me wonder if I should just hang onto my zincolns (when sorting pennies), since I'll probably be wanting them back in a few years and might not be able to get them so easily.
If I keep the zinc cents, then I don't even need to sort - just stash boxes. |
