I did a search and found that these are in Jackson, Mississippi. Its a Memorial specially designed to hold 50 million pennies weighing 160 tons and totaling $500,000. — Each penny a remembrance for a baby that has been aborted in America since the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision in 1973 legalizing infants to be aborted in all 50 states throughout all nine months of pregnancy.
Any serious hoarders take note (just in case you're getting ready to build one of these):
"Concrete pilings more than 16 feet deep support the thick concrete pad that serves as the floor of the container. A super-strong polycarbonate material serves as the “glass” on all four sides, making the container transparent."
Looks like all the funds are eventually going to be donated to pro-life programs. It also looks like they've made quite a bit of progress since those first pictures:

WOW, gotta get one of these.... A STRETCH ARMORED TRUCK!!

After the fund raiser is over, a really well funded hoarder or group of hoarders could offer to buy the pennies for less than 1 cent each. All you would have to do is undercut whatever Brinks is going to charge them to pick-up all those pennies. I bet an offer of $475k would get their attention.
I wonder what the copper percentage is in Jackson? |

That's about 3 hours from me. If it's similar to my area, 12%-15%. |

If you did one pass, I would guess about 3333 hours (probably a bit less). That is based on me being able to run a box of 2500 through an apprentice in less then 10 minutes. So 50,000,000 / 2,500 is 20,000 boxes and 20,000 boxes * 10 minutes / 60 minutes per hour = 3333 hours. So you could get it done in a year or so if you worked 60+ hours a week.
I think that you might want to buy a second apprentice or two for that job. |

I put in perspective, the Govt mints 5B+ pennies per year....or about 100X that number of pennies per year!
Or another thought....since there are about 6.5B people on earth and about 300M in the US....it would take 6 boxes to represent the US Population and 130 boxes to represent to world population....there are a lot of humans on earth.....what will happen when cheap oil runs out.....a lot less food.....a lot of dead humans....
Have a nice day! |
