Do you like them or hate them?
The bars are not mine but the picture was borrowed from another forum. LOL!
First, I realize one obvious reply might be that if prices "necessarily skyrocket" if I might borrow a phrase, then a 100oz bars will be harder to sell due to the dollar value.
Second, I'm sure most individuals would rather have all 1oz bars versus one big bar. However, when buying silver like on eBay it is sometimes easier to get the 100oz bar and pay less of a premium.
One negative aspect to a larger silver bar is the old story that I'm sure was true at one point but honestly not sure how wide spread the problem was. In the 1980s some bars were "drilled out" i.e. cored and the center replaced with lead and the capped with silver and smoothed so you would not notice the difference. Only when the bars were melted was this discovered.
So I'm curious to see what other might say on buying silver in this form. Lastly, what would be your favorite brand: Engelhard, Johnson Matthey?

if i can count correctly, that's 130 englehard bars. that is just in the top of your safe. you are quite a stacker.
in quantities that large, yeah 100 ounce is convenient and stacks well.
whether its the right call depends on how you intend to sell them. silver eagles could be sold in many more ways. |
Buying: Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00 copper cents at 1.3X wheat pennies at 3X

I've always wanted one, but have the concerns you mentioned below (filled w/ lead, hard to move if prices go up).
Of course if you run across a deal on a 100oz bar, go for it. It never hurts to have a little bit of everything IMO. |

Methinks you got that from silverseek Seriously though, there's nothing wrong with 100 oz'ers if you can afford them. They are perfectly liquid. I'm sure that when silver was 4-5 bucks/oz. people had the same concerns when silver would get to ~$20, nobody would be able to buy them, but that obviously hasn't happened. Silver at a low premium is the best kind. Plus, if a situation arose where one needed smaller denominations, there are outfits that can take that 100 oz. and convert to smaller units for a fee.
Drill and fill bars are extremely rare, buy from reputable dealers and you can rest easy |

I'd find it hard to pass 100oz bar, and dealing with the taxes. |

I have personaly seen one of these "lead filled bars" at a coin show.
Now I will not own any bar larger than a 10oz. It's not like I am going to melt it or ever know if it was altered.....but still.......no thanks. |

If I can get them for the right price I'm a buyer. But for a matter of a few cents more per ounce I can get 10 ounce bars instead so why bother with 100 ounce bars? |

Sorry, I just soaked all my napkins.
Looks like the inside of my gunsafe.... well, except that mine is empty of silver pretty much, and ... still mostly empty. I put low value wheat cents in there just to make it look like it was full. |

I like them. I have one JM 100oz bar. It's one heavy chunk of metal. That's much of the appeal. |

On eBay I've seen quite a few 100 ounce bars sell on a per ounces basis less than 10 ounce or 1 ounce bars. However, you have to make sure you remember to add in the postage costs to get a true dollar for dollar comparison.
Again, I think one reason is obviously, lots more folks that can afford $19 versus $1900 so not as many people are bidding on the higher dollar bars which in some cases let you get a better price.
Also, I think demand wise, as some folks as stated; they prefer the smaller bars or just are concerned about the bigger bar size.

I agree, that is why I have one 100 oz bar, 15 10 oz bars and 150 one oz rounds. I will only have the one 100 oz bar, but am continuing to accumulate more 1 and 10 oz bars. |

People trade 10oz gold bars, so IMO don't worry about silver being "too expensive" in the 100oz size. |
