I think we are lucky just to have him as de-facto leader of the opposition. I do hope he runs for 2012 president just because I'm not sure anyone else will be in a position to....should someone better appear on the scene he can always withdraw.
The big problem Paul has it that too many of his fellow Republicans hate his policies as much as the democrats do.
