I have the opportunity to buy either a $500 box of halves or a $1000 bag of halves.
These are from 2 different bank branches that are only a couple blocks away from each other. I thought it was strange how one has to buy a box while the other can buy me a bag.
I picked up a $500 box today and got a 1996 S proof, 1968 D, and a 2008.
I assume most of you would recommend going with the $1000 bag vs. buying the box???

yeah, bags can have good luck. Sometimes a couple halves short though.
BUt you don't have to break open ALL those rolls!!!

They do have the down side of being potentially light. Are we talking about bags straight from one particular branch or from being ordered from outside?

| Buy the bag. I have had great luck with bags. Found my 1st Franklin and Walking Liberty in bags. I don't order boxes anymore. The best thing is not opening all those rolls. |

Well she said she could order me a bag so assume from the outside; she showed me one of those clear plastic bags and said it would come in one of those
I figure I might as well give it a try; I went through the $500 last night and already have it re-rolled |

| PennySaved, My bank orders them for me, they come in FED coin lok bags. The clear bags. The nice thing is, you can kinda scan them while they are in the bag and look for silvers. I just dump mine at the credit union. I have been skunked, but it is very rare. Last bag that was a skunk, I dumped and the machine said $1000.00. I feel that the bags have accurate coin counts. Buy 1, give it a try. What do you have to lose? |

| I agree with Slickeast. I'm a bit jealous that you have that option. The banks i've worked with this year have produced a very high rate of skunk boxes. |

I just wanted to ask because I didn't know if you guys got shorted with the bags but it sounds like that doesn't happen much.
Do you find any unusual stuff in bags? any of you find gold in a half bag? |

| We will see if I get a bag; I called today and talked to the branch manager and she said she would order me $1k; she said though that she was looking at the order sheet and it did not specify if it was a bag or a box. She said she just had asumed it was a bag. I went ahead and had her order it. We will see if I get a bag or a box. |

I have found gold in a bag of halves that came off of a coin counter once. It was a 10K gold ring, no gold coins though... |

I have found other denomination coins, paperclips , and a guitar pick. No gold. I think the 2 bags I just got are skunks. They are also in numerical order. Odd thing is, when I get a great bag, the other isn't. When I get a skunk bag, the other is its buddy.
Don't give up if you get skunked at 1st. |

Unfortunately I got 2 $500 boxes vs a $1000 bag
However, there is a bright side. While the merchant teller was getting my ordered halves, I asked her if she had any loose halves. She had 2. I bought both and One was a 1964. How sweet is that. |
