| Harder to get rid of your rejects. Because of the declining value of the dollar the exchange rate is not in our favor any more. On the positive side, the percentages are higher. Definately worthwhile if you can get them. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

A Couple of things to add:
Positive:
The percentage of Canadian coppers in circulation may be higher than the percentage of US coppers in circulation. A 1996 switch over versus 1982 makes a big difference. More coppers found per amount of pennies sorted is a good thing.
Negative:
The newer Canadian coppers are lighter than US coppers. Making you percentage gain on a 1 penny investment smaller.
Of course, the real question is whether or not you live in/near Canada and/or the US. Those pennies get heavy, so most of hoard whatever we can get a hold of close to where we live. |

Ive called about 100 Scrap Dealers.
Most said they did not buy currency. like 3 though are looking into if there refiners will buy from them. Ill make a cupple trips a week at the right price it would be worth it. Im only 3 hours from the boarder. I had one guy tell me 2 dollars a pound. so thats approx .50 cents on the dollar.

Great question.
I have yet to, but I suspect they're out there. I'm guessing that buying currency isn't exactly something they'd like a reputation for, but there's only one way to find out.
Good info, cc101. The trail is getting warmer.... |

Yes, currency makes it harder, as people are understandably hesitant to deal with it. Keep at it; the buyers are definitely there. If you have large quantities (e.g., 5,000 pounds or more), PM me and I'll see if I can hook you up with a buyer. That's the other problem you face; you really have to have large quantities to get them interested.

I don't want to take this way too far off topic, but I have a local contact who owns a plating business who seems to feel his friends in the same type of business might be interested in buying pure Canadian nickels. If anyone is interested in selling contact me through PM and include your asking price(s). |

| I live right on the border and almost all the canadian pennies I get are pre-97. I just got 8 out of 10 rolls and only one was post '97. They all seem to be different weights? Some are thicker, thinner, etc. I broke a real light feeling '96 onpen with two piars of pliers and it was copper. Did the same thing to a 2000 and it wasn't copper. |
