This auction just ended. These are just normal bank rolls of halves and people are willing to pay $46 for $30 FV? Wow.....I should get in on this! Any thoughts on this? This seller made out like a bandit

Not nearly as profitable as you might think at first glance. Here's a basic breakdown:
Sale Price $39.10 Shipping Charge $6.90 Total Income $46.00
eBay Insertion Fee (started at $0.99 so it was free) $0.00 eBay Final Value Fee (9% of sale price) $3.52 PayPal Fee (2.9% of payment + $0.35) $1.68 Postage (SFRB via PayPal) $4.85 3 Rolls of Halves $30.00 Total Expenses $40.05
Total Profit $5.95
Does not include time, gas, any other packaging supplies like tape, labels, ink, etc.
Profitable? Yes, if you can consistently get those kind of bids and do enough volume. Made out like a bandit? Not really, considering the amount of time that goes into selling. |

| If you really wanted to try there's a few members here who can make those rolls too. I don't think they're banks though... |

What I was thinking was "What were the buyers thinking???" Yes Natsb88, Feebay/PayPal fees are really harsh, and virtually wiped out his profit. Thanks, I need a dose of reality every now and then to remind me not to sell on Feebay much. What I was more thinking was "What were the buyers thinking???" |

| Look at his feedback. He sold two lots for over $55. One person said he found 1 40% half. Why would anyone pay that for $30 worth of halves? |

| I sold a roll of Bicentennial Kennedy's at a consignment sale for $17.00 a couple weeks ago. I am still shaking my head over that one. Some people just want to part with their money. |

At $55 I could make the rolls and put a 40% in every one. But as soon as I tried it the lot would probably sell for $22. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

| HCBTT, I'll buy 3 rolls of halves for 22 + 6.90 shipping. Heck, you can get 12 rolls in a box, so $88 for 12 rolls plus 6.90 shipping sounds like a good deal to me. |

Those rolls look just like the N. F. String & Son rolls that I was able to get a few of at a local bank and they produced the one 2009 half dollar I found during May.
