So I went into a bank today to pick up some rolled half dollars. The teller goes and grabs them, everything is there. I pay for them. Then she offers to sell me the halves that are in the coin counter. I say sure, how many are there? She looks at the machines display and tells me $25.50. I'll take them. So she grabs my canvas bag with the other loose rolls and dumps the plastic bucket into it. I hand her the $25.50 and say thank you and walk out of the bank. I get back to my hotel and start going through a bunch of halves from another bank. I finally grab the bag with the loose halves and dump it out. I quickly realize that there is way more than $25.50 in loose halves. I did a quick count and came up with $126.00. The bank will not reopen until tomorrow. I am going to call the bank and ask if they can reconfirm the quantity of halves that they had at the time that I purchased them. If they tell me $125.50 then I will bring in the extra $100.00. If they again tell me only $25.50 then what would you do? I know what I will do I am asking what you would do.

Square up with the bank dollar for dollar.
You know whats right.
Or, if you use the same bank as NDFARMER, send him 100 bucks and all will be right. |

Oh I am planning on making it right with them. The funny thing is I don't have an account with them and I am in town working and do not live anywhere close to the bank. So tomorrow being Saturday I have my fingers crossed that they are open on Saturday. otherwise I would have to settle this over the phone and mail a check and all that fun stuff.
I did get a 1968 40%, a Canadian $2.00 Toonie, and a 1998 Mexican 10 Peso bi-metal coin.
Hopefully instant Karma sets in and a $100.00 bill blows up to my legs in the wind on my way out of the Bank..
I would hate for someone to lose their job over this.. |

Think bigger,like a $1000 note!
Just explain what took place, either honest mistake or their machine is off, would not want to cost someone a job,she was nice to do that. Just give them back $100 in halves and have a clear conscience. Maybe ask if you can cash in(dump)all your other pickups too |

That's my plan.. I am going to see if I could maybe pick-up the dimes from the counter as well. I never had intentions of keeping to $100.00 because I can see how the error could have occurred. She was very nice and who knows, maybe she has a little stash of silver she may be willing to give up..
My worry is that they are going to try and tell me that the machine was right and that there was only $25.50 in halves and there is no way to prove what really happened. Who knows.. I will find out tomorrow.. |

| You can bet she came up short that day when she settled her drawer. The quicker you get it back to her the better. There is no need call the bank to ask what the tape says, because you know the amount you got. |

I turned in 1 box of pennies and $40 in nickels last week and the guy was about to hand me $90
At 1st, I asked him are you sure about that. Then he looked at me and said yeah $90. Then he stopped to think a minute and he said he was thinking each box of pennies was $50
I know they are human but it seems they mess up quite a bit. |

So I woke up early this morning and drove down to the bank. That particular bank is not open on Saturdays. So I will have to wait until tuesday to call them. I will find out what the mailing address is and send a check.
The karma is already kicking in... I picked up a $190.00 in CWR and pulled two 1964 Kennedy's and a 1918 one florin which is .925 and just slightly smaller than a half dollar. I also picked up a 1965 Canadian proof like set still in the wrapper for $13.95. |

| Yeah it is a great place to live. But don't tell anybody. We only have 600,000 people in the whole state. And it wouldn't bother me if a few more moved out. |

| I left 15 years ago and told everyone I knew there that I'd pay them 100 bucks each if they ever sighted me on ND soil. |

Why is that? I thought you made it sound like you liked North Dakota and you were kind of envious of me for living here? |

Time heals all wounds. I'm nostalgic.
I love everything but about ND but......-30F, or six straight weeks without seeing 0F.
Edit to add:
ND is the only place I've seem motor oil freeze or been bitten by more than 30 mosquitos at one moment |

| Yes it can be a bit challenging to live here at times. But I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. No oil spills, no hurricanes, no earthquakes, very few tornadoes. Just cold in the winter and mosquitoes in the summer. And I can drive 25 miles to my nearest "BIG" town (pop. 6,000) and many times not meet another car on the road. |
