Hi all,
I have $15.00 worth of 1959-1982 copper pennies or 1500 pennies / 146 = 10.27 pounds. Is it better/easier/profitable to sell on this forum, ebay or somewhere else? Thanks for the replies.
ps I've posted this question here as I am a new member and can't post in buy sell until I get enough posts.

Welcome to the forum!
I know you will find the input and opinions of all the members here very helpful and enlightening when it comes to anything about, well, mostly anything.
$15 is a great start for a penny hoarder. However, it probably wouldn't be worth it to ship the coins anywhere. You'd have to use the small Flat Rate Box from the Postal Service, which will run you right around $4.95.
If you really do want to sell them, I'd suggest hoarding up just a bit more to make shipping worthwhile. Then, you shouldn't have any problem turning them on the buy/sell/trade forums for a quick profit.
Good luck in your sorting. Enjoy RealCent! |

That was a sneaky way to get around the rules.... I'll edit out your offer to sell and keep the rest. |

Thanks all for the replies.
I usually frequent 2-3 boards and ocassionally have lurked here. I enjoy sorting but find hand sorting pennies way too time consuming. So I am thinking about going Ryedale and thought I would get some experience about the whole process and try and sell my 1500 pennies first. That is why I ask about where to sell them. I've seen listings on Ebay for 5 and 10lbs. and of course more. For those that aren't hoarding is that where to sell? Is there a minimum people here like to buy like $50 face? |

E-bay listings are a good way for exposure. The market is slowing growing, and will continue to grow. The price of copper, the percent that can be pulled from circulation, and the melt ban all have an effect on the market.
I have sold numerous 10 lb lots on E-Bay, and keep an active listing for various weights on E-Bay.
If your goal is to profit from sorting, a Ryedale is going to be needed. But you have to consider the cost of the machine, your time, gas for traveling to all the banks. Not to mention the dumping issues. The profit margin is thin. Most sort for the hobby and any profits are just a bonus. |
