Ok, so I have around 20-30 NIFC halves I've accumulated crh'ing. I am wondering if I should cash these in for face, as they currently only are worth about .58-.60 and that is MS66 and above....anyone interested in these? I don't think they will have any significant numismatic value for a long time, and they may never.....

Wow, gothboi30... you're a pretty convincing salesman. How could anyone resist a sales spiel like that? I think you've answered your own question. Your time is valuable as well... so why do you waste it looking for such questionable finds? |

gb- I saved 300 of them before I wised up and cashed them in...Dumped a couple thousand since then. The odds of getting truly BU coins w/o bag marks via CRHing are very slim.
It may be short sighted but they eventually tie up too much capital. |

| Hmm...I looked at the mintage figures and they are just SO LOW that I think saving them (I do) is a good idea. |

well, IF the NIFC halfs have any value, the folks on this board should know. Are there any years that are more likely to be of value? '87 or '09? I don't think I have come across many '08s ---- does that suggest they would have a better chance of appreciating?
Saving the NIFC is something I always do, then when I think I have collected too many, I turn in all but the '87s, and I have no idea why I keep the 87s. |

The 1987 halves were only sold by the mint in US mint sets (and proof sets). None were minted for general circulation that year. I still have 10 of them I bought from the mint in 1987. You couldn't buy them in rolls or bags like you can now with NIFCs. So, when you find them in the wild, they are kind of special since someone a long time ago cut open the mint cello and spent them. |

| I think they are worth keeping. You don't find that many of them. If you ever have a coin auction you never what what they will bring. A couple weeks ago I sold a roll of Bicentennial Kennedy halves for $17.00 and a roll of Ikes for $32.00 I couldn't believe it. |
COPPER - the "poormans" precious metal!!!
SELLING - $100.00 face copper shipped to you for $189.00 machine rolled or bagged - PM me if your interested. |

| Mr. RoadRunner, there are a significant number of members here who search $5k or more in half dollars every week. There was a poll somewhere on this board, and I was surprised and comforted by the numbers. It is the people sorting thousands of halfs every week who end up with a box full of NFIC every 9 months or so. Along with enough car wash tokens to clean every buss in Chicago. I haven't counted my 1987's but I am sure I have over 20. And if anyone would like to buy some 2002-2009 NIFC halfs ----- |

| Not Intended For Circulation. After 2001 the Mint just stamped out halfs at a lower volume for coin collectors. And in 1987 apparently they did the same thing. The presumption is that all these 2002-2009 halfs have been purchased by coin collectors from the mint, and then for whatever reason, spent as currency. I would be skeptical, but the number of clad proof coins found in circulation also suggests that somehow people choose to just spend these. There are too many of them, in my opinion, to be kids getting into grandad or dad's coin collection for candy money. I have seen a few AU Franklin halfs with the rubber cement still on the back of them. But just a couple. There are many NIFC halfs in circulation; almost one or more in every bag. |

| Yeah, it's the wildest thing just sitting there seeing about a bazillion 1971's etc. and a 2008 jumped out of nowhere. Wish it were silver looking back at me, but still a neat feeling knowing that this coin shouldn't be in with the others. Oh well. :) |

Too bad, I thought they were nice.... I probably won't keep 'em but I'll still keep the proofs. |

about 2 years ago I was at Grand Casino Coushatta in Kinder Louisiana and they had 50 cent machines. I saw them filling the machines with these Halves. they cut open the bags and dumped them. I asked what the dates were and each bag was full new coins, same date.
I put a $20. in each machine and cashed out. I saved these for a few months and cashed them in. all the coins had a weak date, not stuck very good.
now they have all ticket in and ticket out machines. |
