Could this be the proverbial camel attempting to get its nose under the tent.

Of course the governments solution will be what it always is. Trade freedom and liberty for Ma Ma government provided safety. The Governments fix is always worse than the so called problem, real or imaginary.

"Weiner said he would propose a new law that would require Goldline and other dealers to disclose their fees and explain such terms as melt value and resale value. In addition, he asked the Securities Exchange Commission and the Federal Trade Commission to investigate."

You just know that would get warped, convoluted and expanded into EVERYBODY having to register to be regulated, and TAXED. Of course, for our "benefit".

I don't see the harm in this. What is wrong with a company, whose profit comes solely from ripping people off, being forced to actually explain what gold is worth?

Those shady companies sell to you at such a high price, you might as well throw it in the trash for what you get. They give their clients imaginary numbers and promises.

Trolling is an art.

The "force" part is *precisely* what is wrong with it.

What is wrong with a dumb customer choosing to buy an overpriced product, and realizing later they could have bought it cheaper somewhere else? Live and learn.

So is the FDA a bad thing, because they force companies to report possible side effects? Or does that fall under the, "Silly consumer, should have known this product could cause cancer"?

If its so wrong how come they havnt done it to the fast food industry? It costs a pizza place under 2 bucks to make a pizza and we order it and have it delivered for 10-15. Last time I heard it cost taco bell about a quarter to make a taco.

Now you're getting it.

In a free market, consumers would demand reporting of side effects by independent private inspection firms. In this mixed economy / nanny-state, everyone assumes the government will do their thinking for them - at their own peril.

Cigarettes have been called "coffin nails" for over a century, before government-enforced packaging stated the obvious. People realize that breathing in smoke cannot be good for one's health. It is common knowledge that cigarettes cause cancer, yet that does not stop people from starting to smoke them, or continuing to smoke them despite the risks. Obviously, for those people, the benefits outweigh the risks.

There is certainly a component of addiction, but the sheer fact that many people are capable of quitting indicates that nicotine addiction is an overstated concern.

I'll ask again: What is wrong with a dumb customer choosing not to do any research, buying an overpriced product, and realizing later they could have bought it cheaper somewhere else?

Sigh, some people just don't get it.

We would all be living in caves if it weren't for the benevolent wisdom of Ma Ma Government to protect and provide for us...

We would all be walking around aimlessly, curled up in the fetal position on the side of the road, crying out for Ma Ma Government to come hold our hand and lead us through life...
