okay, so I just finished reading the Trace Mayer article on why platinum would be a good diversification. Went over to the Kitco site and looked at the three day chart. Platinum has dropped considerably over the last week down to $1507. Good time to buy, right? Went to APMEX... they want $1756 an ounce! Holy Crap, Batman... that's a huge premium

Pamp Suisse 1oz platinum bars are being sold at APMEX for $1574 - that's $59 over spot. What's interesting is they only will buy them from you for $1489 - $26 below spot. That's a spread of $85 between the BUY and the SELL - not including your shipping cost!! Check out PALLADIUM - the spread is even wider.
With some luck, and when there is panic selling, I can sometimes get good deals on Bullion Direct near the dealers' BUY price. However, there are very few sellers of PLATINUM and it appears to be thinly traded. GOLD deals are a little easier to come by; but you've got to be patient. |

Good deal. I like Kruggerands - you pay less premium for the GOLD, they are widely recognized, and they contain 1 ounce of pure GOLD. They are a thick heavier GOLD coin, since they are 22K GOLD like the old British sovereigns. |

Are the alloyed with copper? They have a slightly different color than the AGE. |

AGEs are composed of the following: 91.67 GOLD, 3% SILVER, and 5.33% Copper.
The Krugerrand is 32.6 mm in diameter and 2.74 mm thick. The Krugerrand's actual weight is 1.0909 troy ounces (33.93 g). It is minted from gold alloy that is 91.67% pure (22 karats), so the coin contains one troy ounce (31.1035 g) of gold. The remaining 8.33% of the coin's weight (2.826 g) is copper (an alloy known historically as crown gold which has long been used for English gold sovereigns), which gives the Krugerrand a more orange appearance than silver-alloyed gold coins. Copper alloy coins are harder and more durable, so they can resist scratches and dents.
