Hey guys and gals-
A little while ago, I sold a group of silver coins for $2400 to person in Canada. I live in Missouri. I am having a very difficult time trying to mail the coins to this person.
First I tried to put them in a medium flat rate box, and go with USPS. They said I couldn't insure it for more than $675 if it's going international. So then I broke them down into small flat rate boxes, but they weighed more than four pounds, which is a no no. Using more small flat rates would cost an arm and a leg to ship and insure individually.
Today I went to UPS. The lady had no idea what she was doing, and it took her 25 minutes before she called a supervisor. He told her what she was doing wrong, and oh by the way, I can't mail coins with them.
Called FedEx. Same sob story. Can't mail coins.
Called USPS again. Asked them about that $675 rule. They said yes, that's the rule on international priority mail. However, if I do express mail, I can insure it up to $5000. Only problem is, the express mail and the insurance will run about $80.
What can I do here? What's the cheapest but safest option? Do I have to fork over the $80 just to get a package to Canada?
Thanks in advance for your help, David

| Express Mail International Flat Rate Envelope + $2400 insurance = $34.70. No weight limit (just make sure you reinforce the cardboard envelope). If it won't fit in one, break it into two, $1200 insurance each, total postage $63.80. |

| By the way, our friends up north tend to hate UPS because they make you pay the import/customs/tax fee (or whatever that is) before you can collect the package (or so I'm told). Stick to USPS. |

Nate-
Thanks for the info, but according to usps.com, the nasty four pound limit still applies.
"Can be used for Domestic Priority Mail ($4.90) and International Priority Mail ($11.45 to Canada and Mexico- $13.45 to all other countries, 4 lb weight limit applies)."
Is that only for Priority Mail? If I use Express Mail, is the weight limit nullified? |

4 pound limit is only for Priority small flat rate boxes and envelopes, does not apply to Express. |
