Oh jeez! I'm really terrible at price predictions, but I'll take a crack at it. For December 31, 2008,
Copper - $3.90/lb Silver - $17.88/ozt Gold - $987.25/ozt
I'm just shooting in the dark here, but I see price across-the-board declines early next year, but then strong price gains in Winter '08. Silver will lag for a very long time, but eventually catch up. Platinum will fall hard some time over the next 3 years. Manganese will dissapoint in '08. Lead will continue to perform, but not at the same clip as this year. Iridium will do well. Niobium will do very well next year. Nickel is the one I can't figure out. I have a hunch that the purity of scrap nickel will begin to matter more and more, so those of you that have pure Ni Canadian nickels will be happy.
2008 will be the Year of Readjusting Refining Costs. Purity will matter more. Scrap yards will change their metrics and models by which they calculate costs.
Ahhh...nothing like blind guessing. I feel so fraudulent! haha.
One thing I am certain about: 2008 will be the Year of the Garage Sale.
As I've mentioned before, I think 2009 will be an impressive year in metals prices.
So Tourney, you think silver will be at $17.88 and gold at $749.55 per pound?

Cu $3.46/lb Ag $17.36/oz Au $927.16
Nothing like throwing out random numbers....
Tourney64, you really think Au will perform that poorly next year?
Deal
p.s. $24 Ag and I would be ecstatic. |

For fun I'll throw in Peter Granich's Prediction:
You must be logged in to see this link.
"It recently tested key support just under $3 and bounced. I do believe it should eventually break that support as a massive top has formed technically and my long-term target of $2-$2.50 looks more likely. I do believe that as the price weakens to a move below $3, one should re-established with some copper exposure. The $2-$2.50 area should prove to be just a corrective level and in the next 3-5 years a move to new highs above $4 appears in the cards."
As for myself, I am really divided. Mostly all I have is questions with no answers. Will the US drag the whole world down into a recession? Will the US continue to try an inflate its way out of recession? Will all the countries get into a competitive race to devalue their currencies? Will the US decide they have to defend the buck and start to raise interest rates? When they do decide to raise interest rates will it be too late to save the dollar? etc..
Despite or because of all of that uncertainty, I continue to do what makes the most sense to me by investing in something that has a built in floor of break-even for a 50% discount. |

My predictions have always been wrong.
I won't hazard a guess about numbers, but in relative terms, I predict that nickel will begin to move up again compared to the other metals.
I base this prediction on the charts from this page: You must be logged in to see this link. especially this chart: You must be logged in to see this link. relative to this chart: You must be logged in to see this link.
It looks like there is a historically recurring wave of availability. It looks like we are at the peak of availability.
I would love to hear from any of you about how you interpret the Nickel History charts at Kitco. |

Gold is tied to the value of the currency. When the interest rate goes down, then the dollar goes down, and gold goes up. The interest rate will have to go up in 2008 due to inflation pressures. |

Based on your price predictions it's certainly not the scrapyard. It's the spot market price. |

I like Frugi's predictions. I hope to see those prices but I have my doubts (due to govt. manipulations.).
I'd say,
Cu - $3.90 Ag - $17.50 - $18.00 Au - $900 - $950

Due to the ability here to go back and edit your posts, I agree. Anything for the person closest in each individual category? Man, I hope you are the closest in the gold and silver categories.

On 12-31-2008:
Copper at 3.11 per lb.
Silver at 12.45 per oz.
Gold at 795.50 per oz.
Just a shot in the dark, hope these prices are on the low end. I think in an election year that everything will be stable untill he new administration takes over in 2009 and then watch all hell break loose! |

The world no longer revolves around the USA. The change of administration in January 2008 will prove this once and for all. It will be a yawner. It will be a non-event, compared to the price of rice in China or the flow of oil, or the countries that want out of the Euro.
America's century was the 20th. The Project for a New American Century is a cruel joke. As soon as the New Century occurred, the PNAC warmongers flushed America down the toilet.

It's the first, can we get the last minute predictions and maybe get this thread locked?

Interesting. I hope nickel does well, and it wouldn't surprise me, too. I think over the next five years, nickel will permanently establish itself at over one dollar per ounce.
I'm keeping this thread open a few more hours. Go ahead a make changes if you want.
I can't wait to see what 2008 brings. Should be an interesting year, no doubt. |
