If you have been doing this very long you probably are familiar with the sound I am talking about.

Actually, while not scientific on my part, there might actually be several different variations of this grunt/sigh.

The first general sound comes from hefting your boxes or bags of pennies across the counter when you make your request.

However, the second grunt sound is more inwardly strained and heard when asking for half dollars. Basically the teller really doesn't want to give up the half dollars in her coin tray because she knows
since the coins are standing up on their side and by the obviously color difference on the rim, the coin screams silver!

If the request goes up to all the tellers on the line; Does anyone have any halves? The holder of the silver in most cases gives a quick glance up at you, hoping you are not a customer so you can be denied. Then there is a little shrugs of his or her shoulders while they fork over the good stuff.

If the tellers makes the exchange are both in on the deal you might even hear a little whispering taking place.

Lastly, the most rewarding sound you can hear is when they drop the loose halves in their little paper envelope and you hear the silver ringing sound as the coins fall inside.

I never get tried of hearing that sound! This is especially true since the the advent of coinless slot machine. After all, who doesn't want to feel like a winner..... :-)

Ahhh, I found more silver today!

interesting to consider John, thanks for sharing I was just thinking the other day... that we CWR's searchers and box requesters are performing a vital, needed function. We may be silver scavengers, frowned upon by tellers, but we are recycling valuable silver otherwise "lost" to industrial demand by our hunting prowess and determined persistence

Hoard now and hold on!

And the tellers however ungrateful can thank us as we also provide job security. Since they brought in the new coin counting machine at my credit union it just isn't the same. Doesn't seem to be as many girls working now. The machine probably cost someone to lose hours.
Dont forget the sigh or the awww as they see you approaching with another bag full of coin.
