Found a trunk with 100 lbs of broken watches. I am looking it over to see if any gold or silver in it. What can I get for the rest?

Hobo I am a watch collecter. Here are some things to keep in mind:

If it says anything like gold filled, gold plate, rolled gold etc. it is not solid gold. If it guaranteed to wear for a certain amount of time (10,15,20 years etc.) its not gold either. Solid gold watch will just be marked 14k, 10k, 585, or 417.

If the movements are wind-up and are totally broken they are worth $2 a piece. If they run and are name brands they could be worth a lot more. Elgin,Hamilton, waltham, longines, wittinauer, bulova, are some examples. Timex watches tend not to catch very good prices.

PM me if you want to know more info or if you would be interested in selling anything.

well it's a 100 pounds of crap! All battery operated. (no batteries in them) Not even a timex. Cheep off brands like Advance and Quartex. Still looking thru the chest. Looks like the steel pile for them! Only good thing was some brass bullet shells marked 40 SW.

Yup, battery and quartz watches arent worth very much. Also to note mens watches are worth far more than womens watches.

However if you have any that say 'Electric' or 'Electonric' watches can be worth something (other than timex). Also companies like Omega,Seiko,Citizen make very expensive battery watches. They did make solid gold battery watches as well. Check for those gaudy 1980's nugget watches and watches with yellow backs- these tend to be gold.

But keep your eye out for wind up watches- they can be quite pricey!

found a copy of a 1/2 dollar coin reverse with watch coming out the face. I took a cell phone pic of it. Will try and post it...
