Opened a box of halves today and two of the end roll coins were 40%. Maybe the reason they slipped by others is that they're incredibly tarnished/dirty/discolored with even a bit of greenish corrosion. But... they're still silver, so "welcome to the clan, Boys!"
The box turned out half decent, 9 - 40% and some kind of Peruvian sesquicentennial commemorative half

Hoard now and hold on!

A nice find. I have been using a Goddards silver polish cloth to clean some of my silver coins, I know I probably shouldn't but it worked a treat on some lightly tarnished coins.

I have a theory that because so many people are now searching for bright silver, only the tarnished survive, slowly evolving into a species of dark surfaced coins.

I agree. "Pretty" silver seems to be picked out rather quickly. Yup, silver is silver.

So do WE have to change our hunting technique in order to successfully bag this new elusive breed of silver?

You mean you don't have your Ryedale set to capture the silver?
