Why is it ok to sell coins that have Nazi isignias on ebay but you can't buy/sell any other Nazi paraphernalia?

I agree it was a horrific part of history but it is still a part of world history

I see no issue with owning Nazi stuff. I do not agree with the ideology(sp?) behind it though. Being a WWII buff, I own some Nazi things. I am not a Nazi....

I think the historicity of it attracts more than the stigma surrounding it deters. I bet this is how the SS and the Wehrmacht were paid after Hitler devalued the Reichsmark. Germany stopped minting silver 2 and 5 Reichsmark coins in 1939, and usually in times of war only the soldiers get paid in silver and gold. The date of 1944 is telling...the Reich was in trouble and producing silver bars with a Reich hallmark was probably the easiest way to control the flow of silver to those the government needed to pay off.

Edited to show notes from the auction:
These bars were known as "booty bars" during the war. This bar is beyond super rare and was used as "MOBILE CURRENCY" in places where the reich mark was not accepted.

I bet the only other place these exist is in Swiss vaults, haha.

Good question, there are lots of horrific events in history. Soviet paraphernalia for one is allowed, they were even more horrific and killed more people than the Nazis... Almost identical ideologies...

I have both Nazi and Soviet coins in my collection.

I think it is a fake. Silver wasn't valued then like it is now. I don't think they would bother to make them that small back then. MH could make a much better one......blindfolded.

While after reading the link NotABigDeal posted I agree that it is likely a fake but, didn't silver have the same, or higher (due to economic fragility), purchasing power as it does now?

Hello everyone,
I am the author of the article mentioned at the warrelics website. The thread there was taken down because one of the sellers of these FAKE bars complained. Instead of dealing with him, the website decided to close my thread.

However, I have my full article complete with pictures posted on my website at:

I highly encourage everyone who is a collector to read it and pass it around to all collectors you know. I believe these bars originate in Texas and have contacted the authorities (internet fraud folks) and hopefully he will be busted soon.

Besides being a coin collector, I collect and deal in military antiques and I really hate seeing collectors (probably new collectors other than seasoned) get taken by stuff like this. The fake Chinese coins are bad enough but now the counterfeiters are here in the US.
