I wanted to say how much I have enjoyed this forum for the past year or so..I have learned alot from all of you...I have never posted anything, so this is my first...I thought everyone might like to hear about today's find...ever since I was a kid(a long time ago), I have always looked for wheat pennies..I even began sorting boxes of pennies a couple of years ago for the copper ones...even splurged and bought a ryedale about a year ago...I have found the normal percentage of wheats per box(as everyone else does)...but today, my local BB&T bank called me and told me they had extra rolls of pennies that someone dropped off...they always keep a look out for anything unusual for me...she said I think that some of them are wheats...so I stopped by on my lunch and picked them up...I opened up the first roll...ALL WHEATS!!!!...the second..the same...the third..so on and so on....all wheats...$41 dollars worth...plus $10 dollars worth of pre-1960 nicklels including two silver war bickels...my best day to date for wheats, BY FAR!!!...thought everyone might enjoy my day....

Wow! $41 in wheats and $10 in pre-1960 nickels. Don't think you can top that. Must have been part of a collection. I would be checking rare dates on wheats. Awesome find. |

Glad to have you final join us in posting, linspekin.
That is an awesome find you picked up. Do reward your tellers.
Be sure to post any pre-40 wheats in the tracking thread for them.
Also, check those nickels carefully for the key dates of 1938D, 1938S, 1939D, 1939S and the big one is 1950D. The nickels have a tracking thread too, as well as the war nickels being reported in the silver tracking thread.
Continued success to you.
Enjoy your coin searches, everyone.

After almost five hours of checking dates, I finally have a tally of wheats...whoever had these before must have know what they were doing...no rare dates, very few d or s mintmarks especially before 1940....maybe I will get lucky and the bank will call with those...I can at least wish!!! Here is the run down:
2-1911 1-1913 1-1916 1-1917 2-1918 6-1919 1-1919s 14-1920 3-1923 1-1924 3-1925 3-1927 2-1929 2-1930 9-1934 12-1935 35-1936 1-1936d 20-1937 7-1938 9-1939 1-1940s 1-1945s 1-1950s 4-1951s 1-1953s 1-1954s
The rest were common date 40's and 50's....off to find more!!!!!! |

I would say that a windfall like that merits coming out of the shadows!
I guess that's kinda what spurred me to register and start posting too. There's not many places where you can brag and boast about your penny sorting finds without folks thinking that you're nuts. Welcome to the forum and congrats on your awesome score. |
