Went to a coin auction today. Bought a bunch of stuff. More than I should have but when things are going for the right price I guess that is the time to buy. I go to a lot of sales and don't buy anything quite often. I will just list the CC Morgans I picked up. I think they were a good buy but when I get home I always wonder if they were such a good buy why didn't anybody else bid any higher. What do you think? Here is what I got:

1878CC - EF $ 80.00
1880CC - VF $130.00
1882CC - EF $ 70.00
1891CC - EF $ 80.00
1892CC - VF $135.00

COPPER - the "poormans" precious metal!!!

SELLING - $100.00 face copper shipped to you for $189.00 machine rolled or bagged - PM me if your interested.

I think you did pretty well. The prices you listed are my dealers buy prices for those coins in those conditions.

Was there any common stuff like silver or wheats at that auction?

How do you base your bidding? On a percentage of list value? If you pick a top price and don't exceed it in the heat of the moment you should do well. Go to enough auctions and you'll find something you want to bid on, and on occasion your competition will be light (tight expenses, bid on something else) and you'll get lucky. Sounds like you did well... as long as you're happy, then who else matters, right?

Hoard now and hold on!

No wheats on the sale. I picked up 10 Mercs for a buck a piece and 15 Liberty head nickels for a buck a piece and 16 Indian heads for a buck a piece half of them were before 1900.

NDFARMER - was this the auction in Fergus? I was gonna head to that one too, but went fishing instead.

Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.

Did you pay a premium and tax? Did you buy to turn right over? When I attend auctions I buy what I like at a price I'm comfortable with. If these coins meet those criteria for you than it's a good deal. Sounds like you did good at those prices. The worst case you have to wait a while to unload them and break even, until then enjoy the priviledge of ownership and don't look back. You paid fair prices for the rest. I have also seen Morgans go much higher at auction recently.

I never go to an auction where there is a buyers fee. I figure they should be glad I am there bidding items up. I don't think I should have to pay to be there. I always ask the auctioneer if there is a buyers fee before I go. And there were also no sales taxes paid at this auction.
