good article Most people I work with are holding down two jobs to make ends meet. They don't have ANY spare money to invest , even if they would listen to me go on about precious metals I've had at least three people ask me for loans (NO) or where they could apply for them (they didn't qualify after credit checks)

Hit home with me because the median family income, home price, etc. are all pretty close to my personal numbers. Good article.

Interesting article, but we seem to be off the charts in a couple of areas for our household.

The driving of just one vehicle is well over 15,000 a year. However, the second car that is paid for is only driven occasionally since I don't drive any longer. And, since I can't drive I can't work so we are a single income family with me not even being eligible for any sort of disability income.

The mention of the mortgage payment has me wondering where they figured in the amount for property taxes and home insurance. I didn't see that mentioned anywhere and those two items increase the cost of our "mortgage payment" by 67% each and every month.

On the health insurance issue, I didn't even think we are in the same ball field with the "average family team". JUST medical insurance costs the two of us, husband and myself, $715.00 each month. If you add in the vision coverage, life insurance, etc. that many policies have with them my husband has $832.00 deducted from his paycheck every month. Don't get me wrong, I am extremely thankful we have good insurance!!!, but the cost is staggering and he had paid close to $700.00 towards his maximum out of pocket for the year by mid-March. That is in addition to the premiums for the insurance. He has had this same plan where he has worked for over 16 years now and each year it goes up and each January his net pay decreases with the rising cost of his insurance.

Someone making 50k shouldn't buy a house that costs 220k.
there is no way it costs 8k a year for a car

i pay 6.5k a year for health insurance + copayments...out of pocket...etc. thankfully we're never sick!
