This thread is for the unique coins that are found during our search efforts. This includes but is not limited to: counterstamped coins, engraved coins, non-coins (tokens), mangled coins, stickered coins, punched coins, and anything else that stands out as unique.
There are other threads for odd finds, but I thought it might be nice to have a tracking thread for them now that we have a tracking section to the forum
And, to start us off, I found this cool Kennedy a few weeks ago. It seems that "Jeff" wants us to put all of our trust in him. The engraving says, "Heads I win, tails you lose"... a favorite quote of Shaggy.

The oddest thing that I found was a 1952 dog tag from Napoleon ND when I was looking in a bag of halves. |

Not sure if this counts as an odd coin, but in my fruitless search for silver half dollars, I found 3 large British pence coins. 2 1916, and an 1877. The 1877 had queen victoria as the ruler, with a small naval vessel to her right. |

Nice finds. It really is a shame that these unexpected finds are the best some of us get when searching halves. I stopped for a bit since the return rate was a whopping zero... |

At work I sorted through a coworker's hoard of pennies, zincs and coppers. I told her that I was looking for "the most expensive penny... from 1909" to cover the fact I was pulling out all of her coppers. I actually did find my first 1909 penny. Sadly, it wasn't a VDB and it's not in great condition. :) |

Dude... I would NEVER be disappointed to find an 1877 British penny. This coin is worth more than fifty cents, if the date is readable at all. And at the very least... now you can tell people you found an 1877 penny... coin collectors will immediately think you're talking about the very rare Indian!!! Anyway... don't badmouth my Brits... I've been collecting them for 12 years now! |

Yeah they think it's a coin worth something until they here that it's not worth anything. And you get disappointed once more. You can't compare the two. I'm not knocking these finds as being rare and fun and icing on the copper cake that is penny sorting. However if you were to repeatedly look through bags and bags of zincs to find only those coins. I would be less than thrilled to find that coin when all's i want is bulk copper coins, and that goes for silver coins too. If you took offense to what i said that's you're business not my intention but i'm sticking to what i said. |

Not offended, but kind of disappointed that you think that about 19th century coins. Now, not every large British penny is worth over 50 cents. So in that scenario, I would be disappointed if I were searching for silver, and got something like a 1964 British penny, since the failsafe we all fall back on is "even if there's no silver, at least they're all still worth face value." But I'm sticking to what I said too. I will buy every single 1877 British penny you ever find. |

Heh, i'm not saying i'd sell these rarities. I just would prefer the latter. BTW these coins are like icing on a cake. When you have a cake it's great to get that extra bonus. When all you have to eat is the icing it's not so pleasant on the stomach.

I got another $2K in halves to sort today. I had to pay the skunk doctor $6000 before I could get the stink out of my sorting routine. Today's sort was almost another skunk bomb until I found the one and only silver half dollar in box #2 for the day:
I hand sorted $8000 in half dollars, and all I found was this lousy 1915-S This is the first Barber Half Dollar that I've ever found. |

I found a 1993 D half today. It stuck to the magnet in the coin counter. It also stuck to several magnets at work. Turned out to be a hollow half with a steel slug glued in the middle. I am guessing it was made for a magic trick. |
