My dad sent off my 2009 palladium maple leaf to get graded. I'm not really into numismatics too much. Just curious if a 69 score is any good of if it's still jsut worth spot price. Seems silly that a 70 is worth a fortune and a 69 is only worth spot.?

Palladium is more of a bullion coin. If you find the right buyer you may get a small premium for a 69, on ebay you might get a large premium. But most palladium coins are never circulated and most will grade at least a 65. so it is hard to pull a premium for anything less than a perfect coin.

One advantage of an encased graded bullion coin is that it give an air of authenticity to perspective buyers. But I'm not a big numismatic guy myself.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Personally i think the whole grading system is a scam, but I guess that's how it's done nowadays. I guess they do that with baseball cards now too.

I wouldnt go as far as to call it a scam. For cheap coins its not really worth much. For top end rare coins though, having a certification from one of the major coin graders is a good idea. I would take the actual grade with a grain of salt or as a good estimate, but having "proof" of authenticity on a couple thousand dollar investment is worthwhile.
