I'm bidding on some 4" aluminum pipe. 800 feet to be exact. I have to cut it into 3' lengths for my scrap yard to take it.

What's the best way to cut it down??? I'm looking at getting it cut fast.

Sawzall (reciprocating saw) with a metal cutting blade is what I would use.

Deal

Plain and simple.

A thin kurf, fine tooth carbide blade in a chop/miter saw works real well for repetitive cuts on Al. It's loud, and throws very warm chips, but it's fast.

Make sure you have proper eye and ear protection...

I agree w/ bluegill, chop saw. But I would use a composite cut off blade.

A miter saw would be the ideal tool. A demo saw would also work as well if you wanted to cut it while loading and don't have access to power. How thick are the tubing walls?

An angle grinder with a thin composite blade goes right thru aluminum. Definitely use eye protection. I got a piece of steel in my eye last year and that was no fun!

Are you throwing that out?

Most rental stores rent cut-off saws. Some places call them rescue saws. You can use the same abrasive type wheels that a chop saw uses, only the saw is gas powered and hand held. I would guess it would take about 30 minutes to cut up your pipe with one. They are VERY fast!

Back in my carpenter days we framed an office inside of a metal shop. They had one of those high speed water cutters that was something to watch. They were cutting 1" thick steel like it was butter!

Are you throwing that out?

I use my trusty Milwaukee 28V Sawzall with a Torch blade. I cut up 250lb. of aluminum scaffolding in about 5 minutes last week with it.

I'm for the sawzall. You wouldn't have to handle it as much trying to get it to where the miter saw is located. Run an extention cord to where the metal lies and cut away. I do like Hoard's idea. If you can afford it a plasma cutter is fun indeed.

Also try a hand held band saw. Cheap at the pawn shops. Milwaukee and dewalt makes them. Kind of heavy but you can sit the dewalt upside down.
