I am looking into making some of my own custom copper bullion. The bars that you see on Ebay are just commercially available copper cut to size and then stamped. I am looking into getting a die made so that I can cut the copper to size and then stamp my own design into it. I am also looking into copper rounds but it looks like it might be to costly to do at this time. I will keep you updated.

That's how I figured they were making those copper bars, lol.

From the premiums copper bullion is getting on ebay right now I would say if you do figure out how to make your own bars or rounds, you should make extra to sell. Could be pretty profitable!

I plan on putting some on Ebay and also offering them to friends and forum members that I know would be interested. I would offer them to friends at spot plus a minting premium to cover time and tooling. On Ebay I will let the market set the price.

I am looking for some feedback for the copper bar project I am working on. What size bars do you think I should make? Should I make them in several sizes IE: 250 gram, 500 gram, 1000 gram or should I do them in ounces? If I do them in ounces should they be troy ounces? Let me know what you guys think.

Kitco base metals quotes in U.S.$/per pound. That would seem to be the way that most people would understand best.

I agree with Ardent Listener. I would base it on the pound, maybe even making each bar weigh a pound or two.

If you go with ounces I would use avoirdupois ounces instead of troy. I could be wrong, but I think copper is usually not measured in troy ounces like Ag and Au.

I also agree on the avdp pound since that is what the market price is based off of. Or you could do 1oz, 4oz, 8oz, 16oz (1lb), 5lb, 10lb, 25lb. I think I would be interested, but how would you go about guaranteeing the % content of Cu?

Be sure and price what a laser cutting job will cost. 1/2 inch plate cut to pocket size with some fancy engraving might do well.

IM O.K.
Did you ever move on this bullion idea? I was thinking of doing something along the same lines. My wife and I own a laser shop, and could do custom etching on the bars. I think there might be a market for them, if we kept them reasonable. Some of those
e-bay prices are outrageous!

If any of you guys do actually make custom copper bullion bars for sale, please post purchase information somewhere on these forums. I would be interested.

If you go the ebay route, be sure to put up a link to your auctions.

I believe brass is an alloy of copper with a small amount of zinc added to it. Can you think of a source of Cu and Zn alloy ? ;-)

I am implying what your custom project would be/could be Brass Bullion Bars.
