Hey guys,
I am interested in getting into stocks. I was thinking about putting $500-$800 into an account through my parents (as I am a minor for the time being). I have been working on a virtual stock portfolio for about a year and am thinking it would be good to go ahead and get a feel for what it is like before I turn 18 and "really" start to go at it. I want to test the waters and get a little expierience under my belt before I turn 18 and maybe get ahead of my age group.
Could anyone give my some info on how to get into this.
Thanks,
JTM3

| I think we can all skip the customary warnings about getting involved in paper assets. lol! Since you have already been working on a virtual stock portfolio then you must already have certain sectors that you favor. Why don't you tell us a little information about them and then we might better be able to help you. You may be futher along than you know. |

In my virual portfolio, I have tried to stay away from finacial institutions and the like. On my first try I lost 40K in a couple of months. Since then I have done fairly well just buying food related shares and other companys that are affected by seasons or different times of the year. I have done pretty well in the past year by just thinking what holidays or sporting seasons (that sort of stuff) and looking at charts over a few years to verify whether or not I was correct on that assumption.
By the way, don't look at my investopedia account. It wasn't a particularly good day. |

Also, I'm not completly comfortable with currency trading. I don't see the advantage from one fiat currency to another. IMO. |

| It sounds like you are on the right track. I would continue to stick to stocks in corporations that focus on basic needs rather than luxury goods. That isn't to say there isn't discretionary income out there. But more of it goes into cell phones than luxury cars these days. |
