I don't think I am even close to big time penny hoarder yet. But because I got the ryedale machine I was going through a lot of cents. I still had to return everyone not wanted. There was no way I was going to hand count or roll them. Both of my dump banks (2 branches each) encourage me to return in a sealed plastic bag. I thought about weighing the coins but know I would be very close but not accurate. So I started a topic a few weeks ago on counters and got some good advice. One of our members and I started talking (off line) about the different brands and what he likes best. Chuck, (you know him as hoardcopperbytheton) offered to sell me one of his counters and I took him up on the offer. It is a GLORY Mini-sort. It is not a mini in any way but compared to some I have seen I guess it is small at 24" wide. I fits perfectly on an old microwave stand I use as a supply cabinet. That machine can really do its job. It takes about 15 minutes to count out $50 in cents and is a bit quieter than the ryedale. It was built to use in a small bank so it is pretty heavy duty.

I was fineally able to do a count of everything I have done so far. $848.50 sorted in two weeks, $166.83 were copper for 19.6% (Included in that $166.83 count was $5.08 in wheats)

I finally started counting my first box today by hand. I have got to get me a Ryedale myself if I am going to keep doing pennies. I would love to see a picture of your counter. I have a feeling I am going to need a counter also.

Here is a pic (off the internet) of a brand new machine. It is a CCS-60 I think they sell for around $2300. Check on e-bay I have seen them for $300 - $500. A real time saver.

The coins are loaded in the hopper on the right side of the machine and picked up by a spinning wheel and dropped onto a vertical slide. As they roll down the slide little "off ramps" knock the coin off the slide and into the right shoot. It is then counted by an electric eye as it falls. It has an all digital readout.

I have already modified it for cents. I took out all the bins and coin shoots except for the cent one. I put a plastic basket where the bins were. The basket will take almost $20 in cents. That little bin would only hold about $5. I removed the sensors for all but the cents, that way I can get to the rail (slide)that the coins rolls down. That rail get dirty pretty fast. I have to clean and lube it every $30-40. Sometimes sooner, especially if counting wheats.

Proud that Dan got his machine from the HoardCopperByTheTon stables. Also glad I found a good home for it. That machine served me quite well for about a year, but I have a few faster machines now so it wasn't being utilized as much. Of course as soon as my girlfriend found out I shipped it off to Dan, she asked me what I was replacing it with.. LOL.. Busted!!! So I had to admit to buying the Mach 7. Now that she knows I have another machine I guess I can finally bring it home from the office.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more.
