I have about 10 rolls of pennies that look like tar on them and others look a green color like battery acid on them.
how do I clean them up to be melted when it it becomes legal.

Why not cash them in for good coins, since you're saving them anyways, might as well get a double play on the numismatics. If everyone melts, yours will skyrocket.

If they are bad off, they will be destroyed and come back as new circulating coin.

wouldn't it be much simpler to just return them and sort new ones to save? why go to the effort to clean them, when there are billions out there waiting to be grabbed? I do have about 5000 ugly abe's myself, and am just holding them until I'm done saving so I don't have to encounter them more than once. When I figure I have enough, I'll release them back into the wild and they can fly north to Hoard, or south to Megaman
