I got to looking around and found out that:
quote: Aluminium recycling is the process by which scrap aluminium can be reused in products after its initial production. The process involves simply re-melting the metal, which is far less expensive and energy intensive than creating new aluminium through the electrolysis of aluminium oxide (Al2O3), which must first be mined from bauxite ore and then refined using the Bayer process. Recycling scrap aluminum requires only 5% of the energy used to make new aluminium. [1] For this reason, approximately 31% of all aluminium produced in the United States comes from recycled scrap. [2]
So I was wondering, Since I recycle aluminum, how can I get carbon credits to sell or trade? Is anyone familiar with this?
Recycle.net offers Carbon Offset Credits. I am extremly interested ATM and would appreciate any info you folks might be able to share.
Thanks, Kurr

From recycle.net:
To earn Recycling Offset Credits (ROCs) simply report material recycled. Materials must be reported within a 90 day period of the transaction. Once you report materials recycled, your report must be verified by your counter party in the transaction. Counter parties will be contacted by RecycleNet Corporation to confirm the authenticity of your report. Make sure your counter parties of your transactions are aware they will be contacted so that they can verify these transactions.
RecycleNet will award 1 Recycling Offset Credit for each ton of materials recycled to both the principle and the counter party. Example: 25,000 lbs of materials reported & verified = 12.5 ROCs awarded to each party.
And apparently these offset credits can be traded bought or sold on the Chicago Carbon Exchange.
And:
Remelt Aluminum Ingot Remelt Aluminum Ingot shall consist of remelted aluminum scrap from a sweat furnace operation & poured into a uniform pigs or ingot blocks with a minimum weight of 25 lbs., and a maximum weight of 75 lbs. Must be free of slag or dross materials and prepared in a uniform material handleable form. Similar to ISRI code THROB. |

Apparently recycling steel saves 75% of the energy required to produce new steel from ore and copper 75-85%. Besides putting a little money in their pockets, scrappers provide a tremendous societal good that deserves to be more fully recognized. |
