Walking around my local coin dealer's store yesterday I noticed a small container of .100 silver pesos. He had a price of $1.25/ea on them and I asked if I could have a discount if I bought all he had. He said sure "eighty-five cents each", so I took a total of 21 of these. Researching them later I noticed they contain 2.6g of silver each (almost exactly 1/12 of an oz.) There is no sales tax here for bullion sales (but our legislators are trying to change that ). Just wondering if I got a good deal for these at .85 or do they sell at quite a bit of discount from melt?

You didn't overpay... With Ag at $17.10, and an ASW of .0514, they have a MV of 88¢ each.

| So are they worth $0.88 each or nearly $1.50 each? |

I'm a little confused now too - when I looked up "Mexican Peso" on Wikipedia I got the figure of 2.6g of silver per coin. If I divide 2.6 by 31.1 (grams in troy ounce) I come up with .0836 per coin. Silver at $17.10 X .0836 would be $1.43 per coin. Do I have a wrong figure for silver content? These are 1957-66 One Peso's. |

BM, your math is fine. The info from Wikipedia, as all too often, was erroneous.
The '57 thru '67 1 Peso weighs 16 grams and is .100 fine. That gives you 1.6 grams of Ag. Which is .0514 T. Oz.
