Welcome to the board, Nelson! How much face value in coins and which coins are you primarily searching? Half dollars will probably be your best bet, but there are a lot of others searching for silver as well.

Persistence is the key. I haven't found any wild silver in a while either, but I keep picking up boxes from the bank just in case. Do you usually get loose bags, customer-wrapped rolls or something else?

Find a bank that will order them for you. You will go through a lot of skunks and then you will hit a nice stash.

Persistance and perspective are the keys. I don't do it to get rich I do it because it is a fun hobby.

Have your local bank order boxes of halves for you. Work on getting a good relationship with the vault teller starting with one or two boxes at first and then more later. The key to finding SILVERs is luck and the quantity of coins you search. Think in terms of a $1000 to get started searching halves. Remember when it's time to bring the dump coins back, find another bank that would be suitable and that has a free counting machine.

yeah, if you've gotten those $100 all from one bank, each time, and they are Customer Wrapped halves, could mean you are getting someone else's dumps that they've already searched through.

Welcome and keep on looking because there are times I look over 1000 dollars in halves before I find silver.

I was in St Louis last summer for a Cardnial game. I visited the banks within 4 blocks of the stadium, and got about 6 silver halfs. $100 is not very much to search. I have gone through much more than $1000 in skunks before getting lucky.

I searched 500 rolls of pennies and all were copper 1960 to 1982
some were brand new. I inherited them and was told they were all wheat cents, but they were not.

I went to the bank today and asked for half dollars.
I got 1 1966, 2 1967,and a 1954, out of $14. dollars worth of halves.

Try bringing $3,000 home only to get skunked and have to bag up like 140 lbs. of CuNi.

It can be a pain but if you stick with it, you can do ok. You just appear to be in a lean run.

Be sure to check out the silver tracking thread as well, it will give you an idea about the averages you can expect.

Just for perspective Nelson, This past week i looked through $4000 in halves. I found only a handful of 40%. But i'm not one of the lucky posters here for silver finds. Unless it's through Craiglist .

Sadly I moved away from the town that had my silver bank. They actually still order and stock halves in the vault and would also routinely get customer rolls of "grandpa's coin collection" as I call it. Those rolls yeilded unbelieveable results. About the only thing good that came out of this economic mess is older coins flooding into circulation. Now days im mostly searching bank tellers' drawers and not having much luck. Gotta make a trip back to "silver city," or maybe i'll just order a box from here and hope for the best.

I picked up $920 today in a casino in Nevada and got 3 90% (2 Franklins and 1 Walker) and 10 40%. I'm happy.

I collect old coins I find in circulation (the occasional silver nickel, 90% dime or quarter, and wheat pennies.) As a cashier I get to poke through a lot of change and find interesting stuff pretty frequently.

Last week I asked if they had any halves at the bank, they had four and 3 of them were 40%. On Mon. I went back and asked again, and got another 40% and 2 regular cupronickels. They offered to order rolls of half dollars for me, but I don't really want to tie up a lot of money in hard-to-spend coins.
