Got another walker today!! It's a '41...second in a row after the '44 I found on Friday night...when I saw it in the roll I was just hoping it was a 90% JFK....

Are these from the bank plastic rolls or from customer wrapped?

PennySaved- these are both from machine wrapped NF String & Sons rolls, from CWI (Coin Wrap, Inc.) boxes. The '44 from Friday night was found in a $500 sealed box; the '41 from this afternoon was found among $370 in loose rolls. As far as I know, only Brinks wraps its rolls in plastic; everybody else (CWI, Dunbar, Garda, etc.) uses paper wraps. Also, due to too many banks around here getting ripped off, cwr are all but unobtainable. Every bank I've been to around here (and that's quite a few) requires all rolls to be completely opened, then dumped loose into a coin counter.

I tried to take the half plunge once and total skunk but it was from one of those bank plastic roll boxes.

I was trying to determine if it is better to ask the bank to order you halves or if you should just wait until they have some on hand from customers.

Most of the banks around here don't carry them in stock regularly. I usually order 1 or 2 boxes a month...can't afford more than that. Yes, I've been skunked a lot, such as the day I searched nearly $2k in halves IN ONE DAY and didn't even find 1 silver coin. There are good finds as well, such as the 2 walkers I've found in the last 3 days, and the $380 bag (I think that's how much it was) that I found 22 silver halves in, 3 of which were 90%ers. I wasn't even going to pick them up, because when the branch manager said they were in bags in the coin counter, I thought for sure they were someone else's dumps. The key is volume. Have your bank order you 1 or 2 $500 boxes of halves every week (if you can afford it). Use the leftover/recycled $$ from dumping the clad coins for your next purchase. I will be returning $368 of the $370 I got today, as that's how much clad there was. I'm going to call some branches and see if anyone's got halves...the key is to have a good source and dump bank system. It also helps if your dump bank doesn't use the same armored car company as your source bank (e.g. source bank uses CWI, dump bank uses Brinks). Again, really, the key is just volume. The walker I found on Friday was my first pre '64 half ever found in the wild, and I have sorted probably between $5-6k in loose halves and rolls...just recycle your clad coins, and sort as much as you can afford to as often as you can. Volume is the key. Don't get discouraged or give up if you get a lot of skunks either. Keep going. You can always switch to dimes if you get tired of skunks on halves. I have sorted over $2500 in dimes (that's over 10 $250 boxes) and only 1 of those boxes was a silver skunk. Most banks will also always have a few boxes of dimes on hand, so you won't have to order them. I hope this helps, sorry if it's a bit long. Happy hunting!!

Congratulations on finding the Walker. I have yet to find any thing older than a Kennedy yet. But I am increasing the the amount of halves I search so I am hoping to have better luck with volume. I will be picking up 6 boxes on Thursday. Might try to increase next weeks order to 8 boxes.
