I am posting this here because Chile is a major copper producer and many of the mines have been shut down temporarily to determine if there has been any damage.
I lived in and around Concepcion, Chile for two year. In fact, my family and I recently began planning a trip there. I have lost contact with most of the people that I knew when I was there, but my heart still goes out to them.
Please keep these people in your prayers and send help if asked.
As a side note, the news is reporting that the people are already looting. Some of this is due to the fact that in Chile the people do not stock basic necessities of life. Often they go shopping every day. Let's learn a lesson from this. Please keep at least a weeks worth of staples in your house: food, bottled water, toilet paper, diapers and the other things that you need to get by.

There is something nice about getting fresh foods from market everyday - it keeps you eating fresh and in correct portion sizes. But yes, everyone should learn from the squirrels, and Proverbs: "He that gathereth in summer is a wise son..."

| I'm also going to suggest that this be moved to "economic news" or "general discussion". |

It appears the eathquake altered the earths rotation and shortened up our 24 hour earth day by a fraction of a second, along with shifting the axis by 3 inches. Cool read:

| On CNN they are talking about neighborhoods banding together to create armed patrols to deal with looters. Shots of a fish cannery being ransacked. Ugly - but for the grace of God go we. |
