hi guys,could someone tell me what finess of silver is/was used in canadian/us coins and until what dates please thanks for your time

Everything you want to know is at these to links. Some of the info is not particularly easy to find, but it is there. Generally speaking US dimes, quarters, halves, and dollars dated 1964 and ealier are 90% silver. Canadian dimes, quarters, halves, and dollars dated 1967 and earlier are 80% silver. But there are several important exceptions to the above that you will probably want to look into....
