Recently I was looking through my old coin collection from when I was pretty young and I noticed a roll of unc. 1973-D pennies ripped open at the bottom of my collection bin. As I was putting them in a new roll, I noticed one had an odd mark on the reverse of it. Then I got looking at all of the pennies and they all had the same defect. I don't know what it is or if it is anything special so I figured I would ask you guys for some input. Here is a picture:

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Interesting. I do see that mark. It is obviously a mint error, so it could be worth a pretty penny!
What I would do is ask a coin dealer in your area to evaluate it. Let us know what they say!

Thanks for the replies! I circled the defects...I can take a better picture if you want. Like I said earlier all of the pennies in this roll look like this, some more defined than others though.

Well the mark on the memorial building i would say is just a worn spot on the die or either it was struck through something causing it to not have detail there. Is the other spot raised? It could be a die clash which i think it is but not sure.

Inquiring minds want to know

daviscfad, the part starting at the top of the 1st pillar going down through the 3rd pillar wouldn't be caused by a die clash

Unless they dies clashed off center, and I am not sure that would even be possible.

I don't see anything odd on the obverse, and the other spot is definitely raised. That part almost looks like crumpled up foil if you know what I mean. If you need better pictures I'll take them. Thanks again for all of the help!

I'm thinking the die had some chips that were polished out but I don't know for sure.
