Recently I was looking through my old coin collection from when I was pretty young and I noticed a roll of unc. 1973-D pennies ripped open at the bottom of my collection bin. As I was putting them in a new roll, I noticed one had an odd mark on the reverse of it. Then I got looking at all of the pennies and they all had the same defect. I don't know what it is or if it is anything special so I figured I would ask you guys for some input. Here is a picture:
Interesting. I do see that mark. It is obviously a mint error, so it could be worth a pretty penny! What I would do is ask a coin dealer in your area to evaluate it. Let us know what they say!
Thanks for the replies! I circled the defects...I can take a better picture if you want. Like I said earlier all of the pennies in this roll look like this, some more defined than others though.
Well the mark on the memorial building i would say is just a worn spot on the die or either it was struck through something causing it to not have detail there. Is the other spot raised? It could be a die clash which i think it is but not sure.
I don't see anything odd on the obverse, and the other spot is definitely raised. That part almost looks like crumpled up foil if you know what I mean. If you need better pictures I'll take them. Thanks again for all of the help!
