I know I should be sorting copper pennies, but, where is a good place to buy copper bullion bars?

We talked about that in the past here Tex.. Most of the copper bars you do see for sale are way over priced and are sold on ebay. With the price of copper quickly going up again I doubt you could find an industrial company that buys copper bars who would be willing to part with them. I have thought of going in with a guy or two who live close by and taking deliver of a contract and splitting it up. But when all is said and done it seems to make more "cents" long term to hoard pennies as they hold their face value and are already "hallmarked" as to their purity.

Copper is not usually stored in ingot form. Copper ingots are a novelty and sell for a large premium. If you seriously wanted to hoard copper, the best way to buy it would be in one of the many industrial shapes that it comes in. Standard forms are copper rods, copper bars (much longer than an ingot), copper sheets, and copper wires.
Do a search for "cityname copper rod bar sheet" or something like that and I bet you will find a supplier near you. Here is one of several that I found near me:

However, if I was going to hoard copper, I would advertise "buying scrap copper" or for a higher cost but easier supply I would go to the scrap yard. Ask the scrap yard how much they are paying for copper scrap and then offer them a 10% premium to them if they sell you their scrap:) |

Also I would really consider gold and/or silver over copper. Copper pennies are great because they are so cheap, but other forms of copper are a different story. I seriously feel that there is a chance that the price of copper will get clobbered in the future. Most copper is used in building houses and related infrastructure and I have serious doubts that China alone will continue to hold up the copper market.

Thanks for the input. I want a pure copper "brick" type thing just for fun. Something bright and shiny if I can find it. I agree with ya'll that "cents" are the best way to go for a copper bullion play. I do have my little copper hoard of pennies. |
