I have just started to buy boxes of dimes along with my pennies, nickels, and halves. I was wondering what you guys think the average is for finding silver dimes in boxes. I've searched through my first two and found one from 1957, but I wondered if that was normal, or too little or too much. Plus, do you think it is okay to dump dimes in coin counting machines for fear of some being counted as pennies, and roll them up instead?

| Are those bank wrapped rolls? Does the difference in weight make it less likely that a silver dime would end up in a bank wrapped roll? |

| They are the clear rolls. I really don't know the answer to that question, PennySaved. |

I think the difference in metals is the reason you will have a hard time finding silver in a roll. |

Well with the bank wrapped plastic rolls, aren't those rolled by a machine? I would think silver coins may go to a reject pile more easily?
I would think you would have better chance in a customer wrapped roll.
I don't sort dimes so I was just seeing which one you had more success with if I ever decide to take the plunge. |

| I've only been able to do the clear ones. They are rolled by a machine, but the customers bring the pennies in. |

| Dimes are tough. I do some for a change of pace and find about one silver per $100 plus pick up a little on the US dimes. Not really worth the effort frankly but I take dimes if a teller offers them. I've even taken $1 and $2 coins if the bank wants to sell them bad enough. Sometimes it is easier to buy pennies and nickels with dimes and quarters or loonies. The tellers don;t feel you are wiping out all their change. |
