On a recent trip to the bank to buy some pennies for sorting I decided to ask if they had any half dollars. The teller said yes we have $160.00 worth. So I said in addition to the box of pennies could I get $10.00 worth of halves. Naturally she said sure. When I got to the car i opened the halves to find all 1965-69 coins. I immediately went back in and got $50.00 more. I got in my car and headed over to BK for some .99 cent doubles! (What a bargain) While there I went through the coins and found that most were in this range. I also found a 1964 Kennedy and a 1963 Franklin. After the feast i went back to the bank at record speed to grab the rest the teller mentioned she had. Unfortunately I arrived a few minutes after close and had to wait till morning. All night long I was dreaming about the rest of the coins being the same. Well morning came and off I went. I bought the rest of the coins and headed home. Not all it turned out were silver but I ended up with 151 40% and two 90% coins.
I have scoured my area and never have I came across such a score! I was excited so I thought I would share.
I would like to hear of anyone else's successful finds as I believe it is motivation to do the leg work needed to come across such a glorious find.

By the way, I bought those $90 in the exact same way. $10 first, then I had to scrape up $80 for the rest. I sold them. Now I use that money to purchase larger quantities of halves.

What a great score! I once was able to buy around $20 face value of halves that were all 40%'s. Nothing as big as $75, however. Congrats!

I have a friend who works at a bank. She's had several people come in to cash in their coins, and sometimes they bring in all silver. We've had several collections that she bought and let me sell for her. So yeah, the coins keep coming in, but the biggest one was $325.50 face in 40% plus "only" $1.50 face in 90%. All of that came in at once, we're assuming because a hoarder died and his next of kin brought it to the bank. I still have most of that, and am selling it.

Because of all the luck she's had from people bringing in silver, and especially because of all the quick profit , she asked the "coin order person" at her bank to order a $1000 halves bag, which she searched. She also got to go through the bag at the automatic counter when it reached $1000, within the same week. So in $2000, she came up with over $50 face more, including a better percentage of 90% silver. It's on its way to me right now.

So... yeah... that's a lot, isn't it?!? I wish I had kept track of how much she's "found" but it's got to be close to $1000 face if not more. Within the last year or so.

Looks like the Silver Santa arrived a little late for you.. but he really delivered! My best score was $120 in CWR halves that yielded 99 silvers.. 88 90% and 11 40%.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

Re: The Finest

Honestly I thought I had just got lucky and that it was a fluke or something. I did not think the rest would be the same quality.

On another note:

I sure wish I would have saved my Franklins from childhood. We used to gamble for them playing marbles. I had accumulated a gallon jar full and used them to buy a bike and a stereo with cool disco lights!

Enjoy it while you can. Its either feast or famine mostly. My best was on $320 CWR's which gave up 57-90%, and 51- 40%. Welcome to RC.

That makes me want to look harder at those half dollar rolls. I see while making transactions at my bank. However I always get the ones with the black marker.

My one and only dream roll came with two other clad rolls- there are so many other hunters here I have to make myself stop in. Boxes are where its at for ME. Another memorable occasion was on my birthday in '08, went into Chase and saw shiny uncirculated halves- got all 11 and thought they were clad till I looked and they were my birthyear '66. Of course then I got pi$$ed about the other 9 they had given out as change haha. The next Wed I went back and got a couple rolls that were mostly 40%, the next Wed the same. Next Wed was all dried up- some kid got caught and got his a$$ beat I'm sure. HH all, Mark
