Yes the 81 and older nickels are nickel with a current metal value greater than face. The 1982-1999 (and some 2000) are copper/nickel with a current metal value slightly less than face.
I believe the 82-99 are worth around the same as US nickels.
Yes they are a touch lighter then a US nickel but the same CuNi mix.
81 and prior (excluding certain war years where they used other materials) are pure Ni. Anything with a king on it should be set aside for collector rather then bullion value.
