This is the same guy who had all of the other cents 1st in 09... I guess living in PR has its advantages...
I did nab a roll, let see how long it takes to get. |

| Saw the PR too and threw up a flag...I can't imagine PR gets ahold of new releases prior to the states? |

| This guy is making a KILLING off of these things. Look at this feedback, he has been selling 2009 dimes as well. PR seemed to be getting all the 2009 dimes and nicks. Heck, you could quit your job, and just spend all day driving to local banks, throwing stuff on ebay, then running to the post office. |

| I have not seen any of the last 2009 pennies either. Must take them a long while to get down here to Texas. |

| If he really has them in hand and the release date is not until Feb 11, 2010 there is a serious illegal issue going on here. |

| I don't see how he can have them ahead of the release date. Must have some inside connections. I have wondered how some feebay sellers have hundreds of boxes of the new coins and I have been looking for them for a year now and can't come up with one. They must know someone that works for the mint or the armored car service that is supplying them with new coins and getting a kickback. I wonder how legal that is? |

I doubt if the "release date" is anything more than a public relations event.
Check usmint.gov for the new penny release date. I didn't see one.
ND - those sellers probably work for the armored services. |

It's a big deal to me to find the new cent every year. I have a cent collection, and I keep the very first one I find, as well as the best BU one I can find, each year, in 2x2s. It was cool when I joined here and there was a "FIRST FINDS" contest for all the coins! It takes a lot of wind out of my sails to see real coins for sale 3 weeks before they are supposed to be available. I'm spoiled! I started asking banks about these on about the 7th or 8th of January, and they said they probably wouldn't be around until sometime in February. The info I found online seemed to confirm this. Oh well. |

What is illegal about it???
Yes, the guy is hooked into an armor car company down there. There are 2 armor companies that are in PR.
Yes, it is very possible for PR and the other US territories to get them before they appear in the states. This is because in the US right now there is an abundance of coin so no new coin really needs to go into circulation. While in these territories there isn't an abundance of coin so thats where they go first. |

| What is illegal about it? I guess I would say it is kind of like insider trading. Why should these guys make thousands of dollars just because they work for an armored car service? There should be more of an even distribution of new coins across the country rather than release them in one area. |

I think it is quite a bit different. Everybody has access to copper pennies. Only a few have access to the new pennies. |

Unfortunately it sucks for those of us that cannot find those inside connections, It sucks that we are price gouged for these, but this is supply and demand and if I had the connections I would gouge too. As long as the coin handlers don't have regulations against these practices, it will always be this way. You can thank Ebay/internet for this.
So more power to them I guess. |
