With the dollar getting devalued more and more every month, where does everybody think the price of copper will go (up?) because of inflation or (down?) because of the impending recession?

My guess, just a hunch of course,
Copper will go down out of fear of recession, then go up due to fear of inflation.
The timeframe as to the ups & downs of the price of copper is the mystery here.

From the above chart, I entertain two conjectures:

1. The stock of copper increased only slightly during the price increases of 2006 and 2007.
Even with qwadrupled prices, the stocks did not return to historical norms.

2. Something big happened beginning in March of 2003.
That was exactly when the war and occupation of Iraq began.

I'm going out on a limb here with no proof of any kind, but I ask the casual observer,
"Might the war have caused fear in some big players so much so that they bought up lots of physical copper and stuck it away somewhere?"

My guess is yes.
My guess is that the US Department of War bought up a large share of the available copper at a bargain price and they are hoarding it for "strategic" purposes, ie. to keep the Russians and Chinese from getting it on the cheap.

Purely speculation I'll admit, but the author of this thread did in fact ask for our opinions.

I recommend learning about "Stategic" reserves.
In most cases they are intended to keep the Military supplied with needed commodities, but they could in theory be used to prevent an adversary from getting their hands on the same stuff.

Great chart!

I think "down" and then "up" is exactly what will happen?
