Here is a web site I ran across. I will be making one of these.

Lots of 82's to test. Go to the end of the page.

I have not seen one like that. I have seen ones where there is a zinc glued to one end. I think I like this one better.

Bounce test on a wooden surface is all you need... They make distinctive sounds.

I trust the make-shift balance over the bounce test. Since not hard surfaces allow for the same sound. Great website indeed.

Selling Copper cents. $0 FV available at 1.4xFV. Also interested in trading for wheat pennies and other coins Please pm me for requests or inquiries.

Silverguy, Thanks for the tip.

I made one with a popsicle stick and a short length of a round pencil for the fulcrum. I glued the zinc counter weight to the stick. It works perfect. My 7 year old son thought that was one of the most clever tricks Dad has ever showed him. We sorted a pickle jar full of 82's this morning. I'm glad I saved them. There was lots of copper very little zinc.

Great tool for the hand sorter.

Flip the 82's up in the air with your thumb. The coppers make a ringing sound, zincs do not. I think it's faster than weighing each coin.

The scale is totally objective. The ringing sound a dropping coin makes is subject, by definition, to the flipper's judgement.

The scale was efficient. We went through about 1000 cents is less than 2 hours. with 100% accuracy. Including rolling!

I like the scale.

I prefer the $10 digital scale myself, purchased from the supply guy at the coin show. My hearing I guess is not as keen as others, so the difference isn't 100% obvious to me. The reading on the scale doesn't lie, and I can plow through the roughly 90-100 1982's I get per box in under 5 minutes. Much easier for me and 100% accurate.

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

When I first started using a scale back in the old days.. I found I could plow through the entire box faster than looking at the dates.. so I switched to hand sorting using the scale.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.
