Hi all,

I usually don't look for anything in the dime and nickel coin denominations, but last week 1 of my banks didn't order anything for me and i was left to either sort my copper pennies of wheat & S mints or buy out their dimes nickels. I decided the later and found 6 silver dimes from just about $500 dollars of CWR dime rolls. And 1 or 2 war nickels for $100 CWR's.

Would anyone say this is about the standard find for CWR's? Anyone here have better luck with the boxes?

Thanks,
JobIII

I average about 1 silver rosie per $50 in CWR's. Machine rolls are about 1-2 per box. War nickels are 1 per $100 box.

Is a box of dimes $1000 or $500?

Current stats (mostly from boxes) are 0.78 WN/$100 box, buffalos you get 0.56/$100 box. Realcenters have been averaging 1.15 SILVER dimes/$250 box. You can edge sort dimes quickly. Both are good when you don't have halves to sort, but halves produce better.

I also wanted to ask Are the S mints for Dimes at all rare? I stumbled across a 2003 S mint in the first couple rolls and figured maybe it was something to hold onto. I'm not sure about the nickels but i hold onto most "s mints" on sight...

Thanks Country. I think you've out done yourself with the stats. I'm a number freak when it comes to data and excel. So I'll start with halves, and then move to dimes when I'm able. If only the rolls came in clear plastic instead of paper the edge sort would be so fast.

They are circulated proofs and have some marginal value. Look for the 90% SILVER proofs from 1992 to date. The best are the 1995-S, both clad and SILVERs.

I don't think a 2003-S is supposed to be in circulation. Save that, and try to research it online or in a coin magazine.

My Brink's dime rolls come in clear plastic, and I edge sort them only having to open the few rolls that show SILVER (or Canadians). They don't produce much, so I focus on the half dollars.

I agree. So many non-silver dimes are in circulation, but halves can turn up some good silver.

Brinks does do plastic for the dimes. That's good news. now if only the Halves were in plastic that would be great.

Don't get too hung up on "averages". I can tell for a fact they don't apply for my area. There is no Ag to be found in halves in my parts anymore. Yet my Ag dime finds are more than what the "averages" say.

The legions of halve hunters in my area have all but decimated what was still in Brinks and CWI boxes. That's after CWR's go past the gauntlet of Ag hunting bank tellers to become inventory for Brinks and CWI.

Dimes remain unnoticed and under the radar in my area for now.

Maybe the charts should show "averages" for specific states, or metropolitan areas... That would give a more accurate picture of what is going on.

Hey Country you up for another stat? This one you should have super imposed on a map of the US with colors indicating the % find (e.g. red = hot spots, blue = >>skunks)

I would track that data, but most folks don't put their state in their profile.

The 2009's are a bit scarce as far as recent dimes go. I think the mintage was around 90 million.

Gotta know which states everybody is searching to do that. If I knew that, I could put something together in graphic form.

Still, it's a great idea. Let me work on it.

You are very fortunate to have found 2009 dimes. I have yet to find one here in Central Florida. I keep looking though for those and the 2009 nickels and quarters. The jar for them is so empty.

I'm sure when I find my first 2009 dime or another 2009 nickel that everyone on here will hear my shouts of joy!!!

Enjoy your searches, everyone.

That's a joke right? If you find more, I could use a couple for my folders... Let me know I will buy them.

It is a complete and utter waste throwing out the 2009 dimes. Next one you find, keep it.

I can find no silver or 2009's in dimes here.

Love to have some for folders as well.

I have found only 1 nickel and have been through quite a lot lately.

Save them!

I sort 1 or 2 $500.00 bags/week

I am yielding about 3 per bag.

Best - $500 bag - 15 rosies.

Worst - Sorted 1 $1000 bag - nothing (almost gave up dimes after this)

Sorry it wasn't a joke. I'll hold onto any 2009 dimes i see. Basically i stumbled across these because i figured they'd be the 's' minted coins because the edge looked so new and proof like.

Honestly there should be a sticky for things like this. A kind of FYI that people want these coins otherwise how would anyone know from the start what to hold aside from the obvious silver ones.
