How can a US citizen open a Canadian Bank account..... that's what I would like to know.

Yes, similar principles apply. One easy way I know works is to go to HSBC. Ask for a Premier Account (minimum relationship thresholds apply). They can set up an account for you in pretty much any part of the world and link it to your US account for easy internet transfers. Perfect if you want to hedge currencies, live part time abroad, or for whatever other reason you have.
