Maybe I am missing something, but. While I do not follow this particular forum, I do not remember seeing anyone offering .999 Canadian nickles for sale. I do have an interest in buying some. Are any of you offering any delivered to Ohio?? What sort of prices are you willing to sell for and how many pounds? I would rather calculate by pounds than FV.

What would make the price shoot that high for Ni? I'm not too familiar with them. I do save them when I find them as I know they have value, just don't know why lol. |

The primary driver for high nickel prices was the spectacular growth in China. Nickel is necessary in the production of stainless steel, other alloys, electroplating and chemicals. China was also the driver for high copper, iron and oil prices during this period (2003-2007). Of course, hedge funds aggravated the problem by excesssive speculation.
For a while, Nickel was used heavily for rechargable batteries (Nickel-Cadmium and then replaced by Nickel-metal hydride) Now most high current draw applications use Lithium batteries. There is talk of Silver-oxide batteries replacing Lithium batteries in the future. Silver is a good investment as always (even though its primary use in photography has nearly evaporated).
As we get out of this prolonged economic recession, expect nickel, copper and silver to hit the stratosphere again. |

| Agreed - I've toured factories in China using a lot of Ni-China LOVES stainless steel way more then America. They are building infrastructure like crazy too. Copper and Ni prices are both set to rise again due to China demand. Only the current global recession in other parts of the world is depressing demand and price. Of course if/when inflation takes off they are also hard assets that should hold relative purchasing power. |
