Today I got screwed over by a couple of customer wrapped nickel rolls.

One had 12 pennies in the center and the other 2 had 9 a piece. My only saving grace was I found a silver nickel and 2 dimes in those rolls also.

Are more of you finding rolls like this?

But 12 pennies seems a little excessive. Have you found that many before in one roll?

Were any of the pennies copper? If so, you know it wasn't a fellow member. You could always take a scale with you to the bank. Of course with experience you can often tell a short roll by the slight weight difference when you pick it up.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

I have been finding dimes in CWR nickels!

Then I wonder whether a customer slipped one in instead of 2 niks.

I also have found pennies and dimes in bank half dollar rolls.

PennySaved...I haven't found that many in one roll, but I have been shorted many, many times. So much so that when I first began this hobby about a year and a half ago, I almost quit before I'd really had much of a chance to experience the joys of the hobby as it seemed all I was getting were shorted rolls and great disappoint in my fellowman because of this.

I've been shorted three and four nickels many times. I still come away with a feeling of disappointment in the human race and wonder what would cause someone to do this? Do they really need the money that badly or are they just doing it to be mean and was this done intentionally (with other coins you would think so but maybe they too have a vision problem and can't see the coins very well) or was it an honest mistake? Not because of, but in addition to, the fact that I mark my rolls and the bank knows me and has for many long years, I always try to check and double check the count of my rolls so I know they are accurate before I return them for a swap out.

What was the total count on the coins in each roll? I've actually had some rolls that I found coins of other denominations and there were actually more coins than the roll count was supposed to be.

I think the most upset I was in recent time, and disappointed, was when I found a very thick button in with my dimes. It replaced three dimes, if I am remembering correctly without digging out those notes. I know buttons cost a lot of money these days, but it wasn't one I would have wanted to buy anyway.

I'm sorry this has happened to you. Finding the dimes and the silver nickel are great but it sounds like you came out really short on this sort. Here's hoping all your rolls will be correct in the future!

You NEVER know what you will find in a CWR of coins. I once got a quarter in a roll of halves. This was a roll out of a box. I have also found SBA dollars in CWR's of halves. So it all evens out one way or another.

I did have one roll where I was shorted 4 nickels. However, there were two dimes in place (not silver ) so even though coin count was short, the roll was correct with $2.00 worth of coins. That one brought a smile to my face and I figured that one was intentional. Probably wanting to get that roll of nickels turned in to bank for FRNs and they didn't have enough but they were honest and made it up with dimes.

The more rolls I search and see how frequently rolls are not correct, either short or over OR have coins of a denomination different from what was to be in the roll, I really wonder HOW a cashier in a store could ever have their cash drawer be correct. You could be short or over through no fault of your own--just from the rolls of coins you would break open being short or maybe even over. That would drive me crazy. Things are supposed to balance.

Where I work, the cashiers have a $5 leeway in both directions. Over and under. Things are bound to happen. Coins get dropped and disappear into the nearest crack or crevice. People have a few cents change, and tell the cashier to keep it. So in a 8 hour shift, the balance will usually be off. When it get over $5, and occurs regularly, then management starts watching the cashier closer.

I've been shorted before and found a penny here and there

Twelve pennies and Nine pennies and Nine pennies was kind of shocking and obviously was intentional.

That is why I prefer getting the bank plastic wrapped coins; the chance of that stuff happening is pretty remote.

At least it wasnt washers. I have been shorted by washers(plastic)and portions of rubber bands. Not fun but I figure its a wash when I find dimes in penny rolls all the time.

I have even gotten plastic pennies in those plastic wrap Brinks rolls. Also, they are occasionally short 1 penny. If you are worried about short rolls, use a scale when you accept them. A small little pocket scale works fine for single rolls. One of those vendor scales works fine for a pile of rolls.

I've found plastic pennies in $50 penny bags, dimes in penny bags, silver dimes in penny bags, nickels in penny bags, quarters in penny bags, foreign coins in penny bags.... And even pennies in penny bags. Amazing! :-)

I once got 2 rolls full of pennies when I asked for nickels. It was in some really old wrapping paper and didn't notice it until I got home. Took it right back to the teller and he exchanged them no problem.
Best I found was a 10 cent euro in a penny roll.

That does suck about the missing nickels. It has happened to all of us. On the plus side, you maybe haven't noticed, but long rolls do show up on occasion, I have gotten 42 coin nickel rolls before. I have also gotten nickel rolls that had 39 nickels and a dime, so it helps equal everything out.

BWR's reduce, but sadly, don't eliminate the problem. Brinks is notorious for shorted and mixed denomination rolls.

I recently got a box of nickels and in the second row was a roll that was 5 coins short. Back when I was doing halves I was frequently getting quarters (sometimes a SBA too)in the rolls. Bought a roll of quarters to do laundry, the roll had a penny and a nickel in it. Luckily it was clear wrapped so I was able to catch it before I walked out of the bank. I gave it back and asked for a different roll.

It just goes with the territory...

I have unfortunately joined this club a couple days ago... got a CWR and had 8 pennies (4 copper, 4 zinc) in it. I was at first urinateed off, then I felt pity for the petty one who would stoop that low.

metal is a claim on future human labour. let's all go get some while the getting is good, eh?

I got an entire roll of pennies in what was supposed to be a roll of nickels. It was bundled with all of the other rolls of nickels I picked up that day. Zzap! I couldn't really chew out the teller a little bit the next time, because after all, you really count on them.

I got a roll of pennies once that was shorted about 15 pennies. I did not catch it because it was in a bag of CWR. I have also had many bank wrapped rolls that are short as well.

That's the thing I love about CWRs, more surprizes in every roll.

I got an NFStrings roll of pennies, from a sealed box, that was short 10 cents. It was tight and sealed, but had a huge gap at the top. So not even the big machine companies are immune to screw ups.

MOVING SALE!!! Selling Copper Cents 1.4 shipped - in limited quantities PM me and we'll talk.
