Yesterday's sort turned up a couple of great ones. I thought it would be fun to scan them and show you what seems to be an "age progression" lineup. So, without further ado, I bring you what a 2009 Lincoln type 2 will look like in the near future.

Your probably dead on these newer pennies seem to corrode in your hands. Were the largest most sophisticated county in the world and our coins are total crap. Mexico and Canada are far superior.

I wonder if we should be pulling the nice looking ones from circulation just for that reason, that in a few years down the road the ones that are left in circulation will be in such poor shape that ones that are in good condition will bring a premium. Most of the ones I am pulling from circulation are good looking coins nice and shiny and not a scratch on them. The LP 2's or log splitters that I am pulling seem to be in worse condition than any of the other 3 coins in the series. I wonder why that would be?

I also have encountered several 2009 cents with corrosion. Zinc coins are garbage.

i agree. zinc coins are an embarassment. i got one last week with a hole eaten in it already. if i can find it again i should send it off to the mint.

Kinda makes you wonder if they don't mint them that way intentionally? If they corrode away in 24-36 months, bingo... they don't have to honor the value they supposedly represent!

Ronin, i don't think that's the point at all. The Mint changed to zinc because it was cheap in cost and still does a pretty good job for the price. Pennies are meant to last, otherwise they lose on the investment.

Selling Copper cents. $0 FV available at 1.4xFV. Also interested in trading for wheat pennies and other coins Please pm me for requests or inquiries.

I have run into some of these 2009's that already look like 2011. I just cant imagine what the heck this coin has been through. Then thoughts of sewer pipes come into my mind, and I go wash my hands....
