Hi all-

Wonder if anyone has ever considered the possibilities, logistics, or ramifications of sorting coin in either of these two locales. Anyone up for a road trip or boat trip?

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.

I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win.

I'm in Alaska. I am finding 20-25% copper in pennies, occasional silver in loose or CWR halves, skunked so far on nickels.

I think Hawaii would be the worst to sort. But tourists would bring a lot of business, thus creating a lot of change. I have sent a few boxes of coppers to Hawaii.

but tourists are paying with cash, check or CC no coins so I doubt you would be getting anything new in

since they are paying with cash, and probably taking the change home with them in their pockets, change would have to be ordered from the FED on the mainland. coin would be flown in just like any other supplies that are flown in.

I think the majority of goods and coins go to the islands via oceanic shipping. I believe it would be exorbitantly expensive to ship coin, or any other heavy goods via the air. At all of the bases in SW Asia POGs are used rather than coins. The pogs are basically laminted 50 cent size pieces of thick paper. The POGs can be used at any military facility. This keeps the cost of shipping change into and out of the theater to a minimum. The post office however, does not use POGs and I saw several emails begging for folks to donate their actual change to the local military based post office.

My local bank says they keep more pennies on hand during tourist season, may-september. I accidentally bought everything they had. Most goods travel by barge, steam ship, or truck depending on how fast it is needed and how much you are willing to pay to get it early.
