My fiancee and I are starting to talk about things we need to stockpile in the anticipation of little ones at some point, and the most obvious starter item IMO would be cloth diapers. Any suggestions on the best place to get the least-expensive cloth diapers? I'm thinking these could be good barter items as well at some point (after they are washed).

My wife has made cloth diapers before, also leather shoes(from recycled leather purses).

But the cloth diapers my wife has made the 'cover' or 'shell' and bought the 'soakers' off the internet. Hemp soakers are good, also she's gotten some cotton large square ones(you fold it into a long rectangle) from China(a friend bought them for us and brought them back).

She has used PLU and Fleece for the covers, PM me if you'd be interested in buying any or some pointers on how to go about making them(must be pretty good/comfortable/skilled with a sewing machine).

We have saved so much money over using disposables. We have three boys so, we've got out money's worth.
Plus, (and I'm not a tree hugging hippy) we have kept probably a ton or more of sh#t and disposable diaper out of the landfills.

How about old t-shirts? The problem may be getting the safety pins to pin the things together.

I'm sure you can use anything, but if you want a diaper that will hold enough pee that you don't have to change it every 20 min, then you need to use something made for the purpose, or with the same qualities.

Old t-shirts would only work in a pinch....
But you'd be changing them out every 1/2 hour or less.

With hemp or better cloth diapers you can leave them on nearly as long as disposables.

Any recommendations on better cloth diapers, brands, how to recognize better diapers, etc.? Can't say I've had any experience with them, as my cats have always used the litter box.

Can you train the kids to use the litter box? Or train the cats to use a toilet?

We used disposable diapers. I know it costs more, but some of the smells that a baby can make will knock your socks off.
